Dhaka
metro rail passengers can recharge their permanent cards from home starting 25
November through bank credit cards, bKash, Nagad, Rocket, or online banking
services.
Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority has finalised all steps from registration to card activation, making the online recharge process straightforward for users. Customers must register and log in through the website or mobile app before selecting either Rapid Pass or MRT Pass for recharge.
After
choosing a payment method and completing the transaction, users must tap their
cards on newly installed Account Value Modifier machines at stations to
activate the recharge. Payment gateway charges will apply to all online
transactions.
Money
added online will remain in pending status for three months. If cards are not
tapped on AVM machines during this period, amounts will be refunded
automatically with a 10 percent service charge deducted. Customers can also
request refunds within seven days, subject to the same 10 percent fee.
DTCA
sources confirmed that 32 AVM machines will be installed across 16 stations
from Uttara to Motijheel by 22 November, with two machines at each location.
Installation preparations began last Monday.
Currently,
55 percent of metro rail passengers use MRT or Rapid Pass cards, enjoying a 10
percent fare discount. Single-journey cards account for the remaining 45
percent.
Metro
rail currently carries around 4.75 lakh passengers daily. Authorities plan to
reduce train intervals by two minutes next month, expecting daily ridership to
exceed five lakh. Once the Kamalapur expansion completes, daily capacity will
reach 6.77 lakh passengers.
